How we got here

Six years, one very expensive lesson

Rebuilding Search Console is not a thing anybody sensible attempts, and there is a reason for that. This is what it actually cost us to find out.

  1. 2020Our origin story

SEO Stack was born in 2020

SEO Stack was born in 2020, the idea for SEO stack came from Daniel Foley Carter who was at the time, running SEO Audits IO. Whilst running SEO Audits, Daniel grew frustrated with Google Search Console's lack of data accessibility, inflexible filtering & the fact that to get the FULL data he had to use search analytics for sheets.

Something needed doing, and so SEO stack was born.

The first iteration of SEO Stack was December 9th 2021.

  2. 2022Growing pains

By 2022 SEO Stack had over 100 users

In our early days we began to onboard subscribers, but, back then we had so many issues with the platform, billing and subscription but, moreso with Google BigQuery and the cost.

Because SEO Stack was processing millions of rows in BigQuery it was often costing us MORE than users were paying on a subscription.

In short, BigQuery became more and more expensive & ultimately SEO stack suffered from performance issues - but we persisted!

  3. 2023The breaking point

By 2023 SEO Stack became unsustainable

Early 2023, our previous development team were just fixing bug after bug. SEO Stack was slow, had a dated UI & ballooning bigquery costs meant we were just losing money - far more than subscriptions were making.

We'd invested over £120,000 into the build and had BigQuery bills north of £30,000 a month.

It was time to let go and give up - no wonder no one had ever tried to rebuild Google's search console.

But, SEO Stacks' founder Daniel just couldn't bear the thought of throwing in the towel...

  4. 2023New beginning

In 2023 we started all over again

In 2023 Daniel went to his old business partner from Assertive (Ram Karri) for help. Ram got involved with SEO stack and we got to work sourcing a new team.

We found the creme de la creme of devs who were HIGHLY experienced with SaaS, architecture, database logistics, UX/UI and more! And so, we began our journey again.

    SEO Stack V2 was born.

  5. 2024V2 launches

    SEO Stack V2 launches

In 2024 SEO Stack V2 went live, we quickly grew to over 5000 users within a year of launch and no marketing. SEO Stack V2 was quicker, faster, more powerful and included new tools and features that were missing from V1.

We expanded our development team to over 10 people and focused heavily on product development and feature enhancement. Then in 2025 we launched a new updated UI for SEO Stack which modernised the platform more.

  6. 2026V3 launches

    SEO Stack V3 launches

This is the latest iteration of SEO Stack, as the platform is over 6 years old, we've built up a loyal user base. SEO Stack now processes over 1TB a day & we process over 100TB a month in pre-existing data.

The V3 includes another UI overhaul along with lots of new tools, functions and features to help a broader digital marketing community and not just SEOs.

What we set out to fix

Everything here started as something that annoyed us

None of this came out of a roadmap workshop. Every part of SEO Stack exists because it was getting in the way of work we were already doing for clients.

Data liberation

We got fed up with limitations in data

Search console is a powerful tool + of course it gives you the data straight from Google, so there's no disputing the accuracy of it. But, us SEOs always want more! and we - as a team were fed up with the 1000 row limits, export limits, no annotations and general lack of proper reporting or filtering.

Our team has worked tirelessly to build the stack, to help real SEOs scale up their game with full data and advanced tools. Thanks to SEO stack you can access ALL of your websites click, page and impression data.

Smart features

We wanted annotations!

It's well and truly far too easy to lose track of website implementations, content changes, link building, SEO testing and more! So, we thought why not blend search console data with annotations and intelligent AI?

This means not only can you log annotations but, you can also see whether those changes are having a positive, neutral or negative impact on your organic performance. Our annotations system is SMART (AI DRIVEN) it will tell you what is and isn't working, offers GREAT flexibility with teams options and more!

AI-powered tools

We wanted to create amazing tools!

With AI disrupting the world - we wanted a piece of the action. So, we thought if we have ALL of a websites data why not take that and use it within tools to help SEOs get more done faster!

And that's what we did - we built a suite of SEO tools into SEO stack from search console with AI annotations through to query counting tools, click projection, keyword clouds, nlp tools, content auditor and more! SEO stack is a suite of SEO tools designed to help with everything from analysis through to implementation.
